The BEST deodorant EVER!!!
Y'all know I'm a tree-hugger, but there's one natural thing I haven't learned to accept and that's B.O. I'm not talking about that sweet way your man smells after he's been working outside in the sunshine. Nope. I'm talking about that "oh-my-god-that's-not-coming-from-my-armpit!?!?" smell (or your man's...) Patchouli it up all you want, but stink is stink.
I never use to "smell" without deodorant. Seriously! I could sweat and sweat and you'd never know. After having a kid (I blame everything hormonal on her), I cannot go a day without deodorant or I smell. I know, TMI, but, hey, you're reading this, so you probably smell too.
Unfortunately, I hate the thought of breast cancer, alzheimers and a whole slew of other yuck-yucks that can possibly be linked to smearing chemicals into your sweat glands day after day after day after day. So, I sit in my stink until I can't stand it anymore (I do have a very sensitive nose) and then I try to use some earth-friendly crap that doesn't work, just leaves me smelling like lavender and stink, or tea-tree and stink.
Well folks, I have good news to offer you. REALLY GOOD NEWS! I found a recipe that brings peace to the planet! I don't smell! I won't get some horrible disease from my new found pit-sauce! It's super easy to make! It's cheap!!! No more plastic containers added to landfills! And, dear friends, I have tested it on a hard-workin' farm man and it works perfectly on him too.

Put all three ingredients in your food processor, whip until lite and fluffy, and spoon it into a jar. You're done.

I am frugal, however there are some things I don't skimp on and that's opting for organic and high-quality goods. And when you buy the raw ingredients, you are saving $, so it all balances out. (I suppose you could use cheap-o or processed/refined ingredients but why??) I opted to use organic, virgin coconut oil, aluminum-free baking soda and arrowroot vs. cornstarch as most all corn is GMO and my armpits don't need another reason to freak out. Arrowroot can be found at most all natural food stores in the bulk section. And if you haven't used coconut oil before, it is very good for you, versatile and delicious! Read more by clicking here.
If you haven't shopped Vitacost, you really ought to check them out. Excellent selection, free/cheap shipping, and hands-down the cheapest source for the baking soda and coconut products I've found. They have lots and lots of organic name-brand products, raw ingredients, food, herbs, botanicals, nutritional supplements, etc... you will fall in-love. Oh, and if you are a first-time customer, and you click on this link, you'll get a $10 credit and so will I! Yay! So, do your part and help us both pay for healthy, stink-free armpits by getting your ingredients today at Vitacost! (Okay, no more sales pitch, but it really is an awesome site...)
No go out into the world and stink no more!!

Funny girl. Why no promo-love for Bob's Red Mill?
ReplyDeleteJanell, Does it stain your clothing at all?
ReplyDeletePamela - don't worry, Bob will get his turn, just wait for my next recipe! :) Kris - surprisingly, no, at least not any that I've found. Maybe it's because it's a small amount and it is easily absorbed into your skin?
ReplyDeleteStand by folks... there's a problem in pit-land. While I do not smell, I have developed an allergy/burn because of the baking soda. I'm testing out some other recipes that others have recommended if you are sensitive to baking soda. Will keep you posted!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried leaving the baking soda out?
