Duane Has To Go

No one pays the renegade any attention, except when he’s trying to get some action, and then he has to be lightening quick or he’s sure to be knocked down by the others .  For some unbeknownst order, he’s the lowest on the totem pole, 4th in charge.  I think it’s because he looks different.  The only white male in the group.  Oh, and his mother is annoying – a real loud-mouth and bossy-pants.  Unfortunately, I think he’s cut from the same cloth.  I feel bad for him.  He’s ambitious, verile, strong, protective, not that bad looking, yet when he tries to get with the ladies, they screech to high-heaven.  Lately, I’ve found him hiding in the in the shadows waiting for his chance to be some baby’s daddy.  He also hides by the hen-house door at night, after Julio has gone in for the night, and acts as a gate-keeper.  He puffs up a bit, as if to tell the others “that’s right, I’m in charge, and before you go to bed, you’ll offer me some respect…” yet the girls all rush by him.

In another place, maybe with a different set of piers, he might flourish.  With his interest in mind, he might get kicked out of the Kittleson family farm. It feels only slightly cruel.  I mean, I held him when he was only a day old and now I’m going to give him to a stranger.  It’s either that or eat him.
